Durand Veterans of Rock 'n Roll III Announced

DURAND, MI—Clear your calendar for August 17 as The Durand Veterans of Rock N´ Roll are hosting their third annual benefit concert this summer. Thousands of classic rock lovers have joined us as we “Rocked the house” during two previous benefit concerts. The concerts were “sold out “events to hear former Durand area musician reuniting with former local musicians to raise money for charity. This year's concert takes place at Roundhouse Stadium on the grounds of Durand High School.

Co-chairs of the concert, Bob Sager of Fort Myers, Florida and Greg Martin, owner of Jim’s Pizza in Durand, are excited about this year’s reunion concert. “This will be another fantastic concert that unites the community with incredible music performed by outstanding musicians. This year, we are raising money for two great community organizations.” said Martin. He added proceeds from this concert will be divided between Durand’s historic Union Station (The Depot) and the VFW’s Veteran’s Relief Project. The concert will help fund “The Depot’s” infrastructure and education needs. The VFW will use funds to assist veterans in serious financial need.

Bob Sager will again serve as bandleader and lead singer of the core group. “I already have numerous commitments from musicians who performed in our previous benefit concerts— as well as other former Durand area musicians anxious to help their hometown.”

Durand, Michigan was once a major hub of rail traffic in the Midwest. The Depot served as the epicenter for moving goods and people throughout the country. As rail traffic declined significantly, especially passenger rail traffic, in the mid-1970s, the station was abandoned until community leaders rallied together and saved the depot by turning it into a museum and renovating its iconic design to its original architectural splendor. The Depot is now the Michigan Railroad History Museum.

Martin explained that the previous concerts were coordinated by a handful of community volunteers. This year, a formal committee is in place to lighten the logistics load and engage the community. He added, “Interested sponsors and people who want to volunteer are encouraged to email the organizing committee at

Don’t miss this legendary concert on August 17. Gates open at 4:00pm and the event kicks off at 5:30pm

Tickets will be available in mid-June at Durand area merchants and online. Pictures and videos of previous year’s concert are available on Facebook at Durand Veterans of Rock 'n' Roll.
